Croydon STOP project
Being homeless at 16 or 17 is an ordeal, even for people we work with who are often very resilient. The first weeks away from a family home is a critical time where a comprehensive intervention can make all the difference.
Croydon STOP comprises a fully staffed 13 bed property in Croydon centre where we work alongside young people to access a range of services that help address the causes of their homelessness.
Croydon's STOP project provides a better alternative to B&B for homeless 16/17 year olds. Its safer and better equipped than B&B to help young adults escape homelessness as quickly as possible.
The project is an intervention that uses accommodation as a tool. We aim to reunite families and young people under one roof again - but also recognise that for some this will not be possible. Family mediation is a key tool we use to improve situations, along with a host of other services.
The project's nature makes it a busy place with a daily schedule of planned meetings aimed at helping young people quickly progress to a safe return to family or to living independently.
Where returning home is not possible, Croydon Council and CAYSH work together to help young people identify what they need to move on and the likely options when that happens.
Croydon STOP only accepts people who are referred from other agencies. It is not a direct access accommodation.
If you are 16/17 and facing homelessness, please go to the Drop in Zone at Croydon Turnaround Centre and ask for help.
